Charles "Sonny" Liston
Heavyweight Champion 1962
- 1964
One of the
triumvirate of great heavyweight champions of the early 1960's,
Sonny Liston blasted Floyd Patterson out of the throne only to
be tossed out himself by a sassy young kid named Cassius Clay.
Liston, an ex-convict with a cols stare that made him the bane
of weigh-ins, was scary in the ring and unreadable in private
life. The twists in Liston's career were influenced as much by
his reputation as a bad man as by his formidable boxing skills
