Tommy Farr, a former
coalminer from Tonypandy, was among the most courageous
heavyweights of his era. His most famous bout was against
Joe Lewis, known as the Brown Bomber, on 30 August, 1937.
The young Welshman went 15 rounds with the American before
finally losing on points. After the contest, Farr was
praised for his performance against a man who had
dominated the boxing scene since the war. |
